Assisi

In the heart of Umbria, halfway up Mount Subasio and 424 meters above sea level, Assisi is a tourist center of extraordinary interest. Those who come there throughout the year from all over the world are attracted by the art treasures and Franciscan memories that the city jealously preserves. The southern exposure, the terrace layout overlooking the enchanting Umbrian Valley, the climate and the air make Assisi an ideal place for extended stays in its numerous and comfortable hotels. Assisi, thanks to its position in the region and modern communication routes, is in ideal conditions for those wishing to make excursions to the main Umbrian centres. Assisi is not just a city to “see”, but to “live”. Its mornings appear of an indescribable sweetness and the sunsets are full of charm, giving back their natural color to the pink Subasio stone, with which the houses and churches are built.
Some of its alleys, squares and avenues surrounded by centuries-old cypresses are full of ancient poetry. The Franciscan climate is present everywhere. The extraordinary secret of this city consists in what it knows how to be day by day and, at the same time, in the ability to relive its past and experience moments of intense spirituality.

The Assisi calendar is in fact full of re-enactments and religious ceremonies throughout the year. They range from “Christmas in Assisi”, with nativity scenes set up in the churches and in characteristic corners and alleys, which bring the mystical Franciscan poetry to life, to the Easter ceremonies, but above all to the Feast of St. Francis, Patron Saint of Italy (3-4 October). But Assisi also knows how to offer something else. For those who love study there are precious libraries and archives. Those who love nature can go on excursions and immerse themselves in the silence of the woods or reach the summit of Mount Subasio (1290 m). For those who wish to practice sports, modern facilities provide fields, tracks, gyms and swimming pools
